WordPress is an open source blogging platform which is used by millions of sites. It
is a flexible framework which can be used as a CMS(Content Management System) for
almost any web related applications.
If you have a web host service running then you can download wordpress for free and
use it from wordpress. WordPress uses PHP
scripting language and MySQL database at the backend to run it.So if you have
knowledge of PHP and MySQL then this platform is perfect for you.
One of the reasons that WordPress is very popular among the web is that it offers
many advanced features which are organised in really nice way and easier to
understand.
One of the features that wordpress offers is “Themes” through which users can define
the looks and design of their site.Users can create their one theme from scratch or
create a child theme based on any existing theme just modifying the stylesheet of the
primary theme.
Likewise WordPress offers features like “Plugins” and “widgets”.Many people believe
that plugins and widgets are the main reason for using the WordPress because there
are innumerable plugins and widgets inside of WordPress repository and you can use
them without any cost.Of course there are premium themes and plugins which offers
more features but these come up with some prie tagging.
The latest stable version of WordPress is 3.4.2 but according to the latest news from
the wordpress.org they are soon releasing wordpress 3.5 which is still in its beta
testing period.
